    Common flicker. It's a woodpecker, though I see them rooting around the grass pretty often. There are 3 variants in coloration, this one is a red shafted flicker.

    Interesting picture with the orange flecks around the bird. They appear to be flowers of some sort, not autumn leaves I hope. Mike

    Well it is dieing leaves, but not from the season change but from a beaver that has chewed just about all the way through the tree base! He's been working hard lately, as there's 3 or 4 other trees laying on the ground from the last week.
