    Default A Birdie Walk - 2

Took another little stroll down the same trail along the lake near us today at lunchtime. I thought the time of day might produce a different range of birds ... and it did.

    Australasian (Green) Figbird

Australian Magpie ... a bit boring to look at compared to the pretty ones you North American continent folk get to see.

Galah. Sometimes called the Pink and White Cockatoo, is actually part of the Cockatoo family. They are a very common sight around here and funny as underpants made of feathers to watch too!

Grey Fantail. These little guys are very inquisitive and will flit around the branches near you for some minutes before getting bored and flying off.

Pied Cormorant. One of a couple different Cormorants we see around here. This one was quite a character. We also call these birds 'Shags'. Yes ... I know ... that means something else to most people ... including us in Aussie

And finally, not a bird but a butterfly of some sort ...

Wow, all excellent captured images MA. Lovely detailed and lit. Love "the look" from the Magpie with the stick. "Just try and take it from me!"
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

Thanks HBG. The magpie threw the stick down moments later

the second cormorant shot is especially interesting. and with the cockatoo being a part of the cockatoo family, did you mean to say parakeet? they have a parakeetish look about them.

Those are great M.A.! I like them all but love shot 4 of the magpie in the first set especially. Wicked D, the gallah is sometimes called a rose cockatoo. It is smallish, about 14 inches but a true cockatoo. The photos that M.A. posted do not show their crest. Many people do keep them as pets, but cocktoos in general are too noisy and too high maintenance for my tastes. They are funny little clowns as M.A. said and really sweet birds though.

oh ok, I get it now, it seemed like he was trying to say it was a real cockatoo even though it looked like something else, but put cockatoo in instead of what it is often mistaken for. early morning reading comprehension skills are somewhat shaky.

    Thanks WD, KBob and JAS.

The Galah is the right name for them, I'd forgotten about Rose Cockatoo too. They are difficult to get with their crests up. We often see them with Corella's as well ... but these two were with ducks of all things
