    Default Series of Pelican images

What a wonderful bird is the Pelican
His beak can hold more than his belly can
He can stuff in his beak
    Enough food for a week
I wonder how the hell he can?

Took those on Buffalo Lake this weekend. One early morning there were about 8 pelicans and 200 cormorants, not counting the sea gulls swimming offshore. Out came the 300mm f4, and I shot a set @ ISO 200, f5.6, and 1/800th shutter speed. Handheld, of course. Wanted to see what this lens could do.

Should I land or take off??

    Can't decide

    Outta my way ...

    Guess I'll take off ...

    Here I go ...

    Made it ...

Alright, so I am going for a cruise ...

    Whoops, looks like Bernie crashed....

    Hey Matt,
I like these very much! I like Pelicans too. Aren't they fun to shoot? Especially at take-offs and landings!!!!
One thing if I can comment would be, it would have been nice if the Pelicans had space to fly into rather than to fly away from. That is to say would have been nice if the Pelicans were to the left of the image. This what I learned on this forum!!
    cheers,

Looks like fun! Pelicans are such odd looking but cool birds. Ha! Ha! Love that "Outta my way" shot, with the skips of water.

Very cool series Matt. Love how the splashes in the water tell the story of a very labourious takeoff.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!
