    Here is one more. I was talking to somebody about cameras when the heron all of a sudden took off. I quickly snapped this picture. Unfortunately it is not quite tack sharp and was a little underexposed. This is the best I could make of it in Lightroom.

    Thanks Q1. I don't quite understand what your comment "Hey, it didn't freak because you within 3 states of it" means. If you mean how far away (or close) I was, I would estimate maybe 40 feet.

    The herons around here are incredibly skittish, and I gather that's normal for them. The ones that sometimes hang out around the apartment pond start getting nervous while you're clear at the opposite end of the pond. You're walking on the path that leads to them. Eventually. I can get closer, but it's a really patient 2 steps while he's not looking, stop when he looks, 2 more steps while he's not looking, etc.
