    Default Kookaburra

A Kookaburra about to take to the air ... note the blue on the wings ...

Same bird a moment later ... note the blue isn't evident now. That's something I've never noticed before!

Yeh I'm guessing so, seen about a 1000 Kookaburra and never noticed this before.

Very well done MA. Really like the angle of that second shot.
How close are you able to get to them, as I see shot at 22mm???? Our Kingfishers are so wary you usually have to find a spot that you know they use regularly and set up a blind, and wait for them.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

Ignore the 22mm ... that's not accurate. I was using my 100-400 lens. It depends on Kookaburra, and what you are doing. At some picnic areas, where they are used to people, and have been fed by humans, they'll land on your table. Usually though, if you get to about 5 metres you are doing well, which is fine as they are a decent sized bird. The normal kingfishers though are very wary and I can't get anywhere near them!

Maybe he is signaling the tower that he is about to take off.

Pretty cool though and nice photos of it. When I saw the name I thought it was one of those creatures people talk about.
