    Default Kingfishers

    Managed to snap a couple of Kingfisher shots this morning.

    Sacred Kingfishers

    Primarily a woodland kingfisher that occurs in mangroves, woodlands, forests, and river valleys of Australia.


    Collared Kingfisher

    A medium-sized kingfisher belonging to the family Halcyonidae, the tree kingfishers. It is also known as the White-collared Kingfisher or Mangrove Kingfisher. It has a wide range extending from the Red Sea across southern Asia and Australasia to Polynesia.

    Thanks. They are so hard to get that I'm usually happy if I get them at all

    Nice catch. They look a little different from the local ones which are actually on our city's flag. Though I don't think I've ever seen an actual kingfisher in Halifax.

    Well if they are on your city flag you'd think they have to be around somewhere.

    You'd think, wouldn't you. There's tons of pigeons, starlings, and crows. I've also seen lots of blue jays, sparrows, chickadees, robins, and recently a few grackles. As a harbour town we have plenty of seagulls and cormorants. I've even seen a few wood peckers from time to time but I can't ever remember seeing a king fisher. Mind you, I may not have always been looking as closely as I have the last few years since I've gotten back into photography.
