Default It only took 9 months to get the shot!

9 months ago I promised a friend I'd get him a shot of a mink. (I do have a few shots of some mink already but Ive never really been all that happy with them.) I thought how hard can it be, I see mink all the time. Ive learned my lesson, never make a promise on a wildlife shot!!! The wildlife have a tendency to be uncooperative.

I went at this with a game plan this week. I found them and I saw where they were catching crabs, so the next day I got there extra early 4:45 am!, got down into a rock crevise, wearing my camo gear and sat and waited......and waited....and waited..and then BAM! there he was right in front of me...Finally!

What do you guys think? good enough to print?

This one was handheld at only 1/20th of a second, cant believe it wasn't blurry!

Wow. Turned out awesome, especially at iso 1600, and aperture of 5.6, along with such a slow shutter speed. Must have been quite dark.
Your friend should definitely be happy with this Jude. Print it, and send it.
(P.S. No more wildlife promises, as I find you can way too easily, jinx yourself to never see your target quarry again).
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

I second that .. but how did you know the ISO and aperture from this? Jude never said ... and I have no clue how to check for such things ...

And I suppose this post reiterates the importance of getting a camo outfit. Wonderful reward for your patience, Jude ... yes, frame it!

Just a little app called EXIF VIEWER, Matt. There are a number of them to download for free off the web.

I find this is the only way I can shoot when its dark before the sun is up. I don't have the patience to try and shoot fast moving wildlife with a tri pod so I always hand hold, I may try to get a mono pod in the future. The lens I have now is the canon EF 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS, and it is absolutly horrid in low light! Can anyone suggest other setting that may work better?
HBG, I definitely jinxed myself, I'm never going to do that again!

Good photo but more than that I just love the dedication on getting the shot
