I think that the color contrast of the blue bird in the second image, together with the good exposure of the scene, is very nice.

I really like that second shot. Such contrast between the bird and the dull background bokeh. Cool that we can see two others flying off as well.

I agree with MA. The bird really pops against the background. Nice to be able to see some colourful birds. I've been looking at some of the birds in Mississauga over the last couple of weeks and all I've seen are black birds.

Thanks for the comments, Jackie, Frieri, MA and Asnow. Second shot is my favorite as well. The birds always arrive eventually, even in Calgary, and I was lucky to find these brief visitors. I think they usually move on to higher elevations.

Mike, there are nest boxes along the fences on the De Winton road (the turn off that goes out to the Polo Club and Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School) southwest of Calgary. You see a lot of activity from these little mountain bluebirds along there.

Thanks for the tip Jackie. Do you have time to go out there this weekend or next? You can PM or email me.

Those birds flying off in the distance in the second shot are a beautiful detail that really sets this shot apart!
