The reason we don't normally see a lot of birds is because we stomp into their territory and they split right away. I sort of creep in and unfold a little camping stool and wait. It took two hours or so to get about four types of birds today. The coolest part is when some totally weird bird shows up that you've never seen before...Makes the wait worthwhile The patience part comes IMHO when you just get the camera all set for the shot when birdie decides it's time to move on. I shoot totally manual with the camera making no choices (other than focus) as I find the cameras choices are rarely good enough for my taste. Having said that, I'm way slower than the camera at ramping ISO, shutter speed and aperture to suit so I expect a few missed shots

Do you call them too ML?

I wait quielty then listen for them and mimic their calls so they usually come and check me out. Other birds will usually come too to see what the fuss is about too.

Worked great with catbirds, chickadees, waxwings, nuthatches and yellow warblers this summer.

Well you're just a regular Doctor Doolittle aren't you? I usually yell "OK, can I have all the birds that want their portraits taken front and center please!" Guess I'll have to try the call thing next time

Yep ... might be something in that M!

I think the first one is a Wren of some sort ... don't know what the others are! Nice shots though.
