    caught these female common mergansers on a log along the shore of a lake just before dawn. i was on vacation in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho, and found myself up before the sun most mornings with nothing much to do except walk along the shore and take photos! poor, poor, pitiful me...

    Bambi, i shot this with a Sigma 80-400. they don't make that one anymore, and now i use a Canon 100-400L, but anything in that focal range would be a good choice...

    Anything in that focal range WITH image stabilization would be a good choice
