    Default Warning - cuteness ahead

Lambs!! Shetland lambs to be precise. Raised mostly for wool at Pike's Farm in NH where a friend arranged for us to spend some time photographing them. They are so adorable it's hard not to just ooh and aah and try to cuddle them. One set of twins was very curious, but they tire easily and snuggle down basically wherever they are.

And pigs, can't forget pigs. I forget the species, but these guys are about 10 days old.

I've never heard of Shetland Lambs. Cool colouring.

I also didn't know pigs have 'species' ... I thought a pig was a pig! Although some are 'Chauvinistic' apparently

I actually meant to say breed not species. Goes to show what listening to a Richard Dawkins book while posting does to one.

Shetland sheep are very small as sheep go and provide wool similar to Marino sheep (marino wool) - that it is of a fine texture and can be worn next to the skin without a lot of irritation. They also come in an array of colors from nearly white to dark brown (some lambs lighten with age). Never learned so much about sheep or pigs in my life as yesterday.

Marinos I know ... some the best wool in the world. The Kiwis have found a way to make 'New Zealand Mink' ... blending Marino wool with Possum Fur! Apparently it's awesome. NZ is FULL of possums!!

Thanks guys. I tried to get some shots of 4-day-old pigs, but they were shy and their enormous mama (Petunia) kept getting in the way. They were adorable. The lambs were hilarious, alternately tentatively exploring, running, nursing and napping.
