Great image ... has some "Tim Burton" feel to it ... try converting it to b&w and see what happens ... with real high contrast, possibly?

That black and white looks menacing. Like the bud is just waiting for something large enough to be worth opening its gaping maw.
I take it that peonies have very sweet nectar? That seems to bring all sorts of insects to the feast.
