    Yes, they're bungee cords. The old ones were looking a bit worn.

    Getting them off. Mike says he did them on his Pitts once. They ricocheted when they were cut. Thankfully, these were positively boring when they were cut.

    Getting them on. There's a special tool you use to get the other end on the landing strut.
