    Default St John's Harbour

Sorry guys I haven't been very active in recent times. I simply haven't touched my camera in months. I just got back from Newfoundland so now I have something to post. I promise I will make some catch up on commenting on others posts and post some new pics from this trip over the next few weeks.

Here is the first post ... pano of St John's harbour. It 'REALY' loses detail when I have to reduce it to fit in the forum's size requirement. Wish I could post the full res image. Anyway you can get the idea.

Pretty cool shot. From this angle the harbour looks tear-drop shaped. I'm guessing the outlet on at the lower left? Those brightly coloured ships in the harbour would make good subjects for a dull day such as you had here. Did you manage to get some close-ups of those? This would make a very neat shot on a bright, clear day, but of course those can be hard to come by in Newfoundland in the Spring, especially this year!

I think the only thing I find "off" about the photo is the brown patch at the lower left (you need to talk to the Mayor about that <LOL>). It seems a little incongruent with the image overall, but I don't know how you eliminate that and still keep the shape of the basin. Anyway, Newfoundland is definitely on my list of "go-to" places (especially the Wreckhouse area when the winds are up!!) so I'm eager to see what else you captured there. Nice work.

Thanks Glenn. I agree with you on the brown patch. I wanted to have a foreground element so this is what it is. Not sure why I didn't, but I should have gone to the edge of the brown patch and at least tried it from there. I didn't get closeups of the ships, however you can digitally zoom in on them in the full res image. My longest lens is 105 (from the 24-105). Not sure that would be long enough. Yes the outlet channel is on the lower left. I've posted the entrance to the channel plus a couple of crops (from the pano) of the coloured ships.

Gros Morne and Fogo Island are definitely must sees if you go to Newfoundland.
