Orton ears a ooo

Hi All,
Please feel free to criticize my hand at Ortonizing these pictures.
Original Casino pic 1. (Taken on a stormy day in Palm Springs (rare) in a car on the highway)

Ortonized Casino pic 1. (Did I over do it? Some of the colours turned out amazing)

Looks like everyone has missed this one.

I think the casino shot is too over-done for my liking. The original version looks best to me.
I think a little more curves and burning in the sky to bring out some drama in the clouds that original can be better again

In the coastline shot I find the orton effect to be too much again. I'm a fan of something being sharp in the photo even if it's only something small but usually the main subject is best I think. I would have the building and perhaps the sky remain with no orton effect.

Hmm..I've missed this thread!

I'm with MA.

The first shot you loose the building, which I would think is the main focus. I think youi could get those colors that you like (which I find makes orton so attractive) maybe through color saturation/hue/lumiousity changes.

The second image, well, I prefer sharp as well. I'm not to sure how you do a bit in orton and a bit not (no doubt it's layering and masking..or something like that) but I don't know how that would turn out. Would like to see that just to see it.

I've been playing with this effect as well. And I've come down to the conclusion that I'll be saving it for those..all vegetation shots that I don't mind not being crisp sharp.

Obviously people can use any treatment they like.

BUT, Orton imagery traditionally shows parts of the image sharp.
It's a combination of a sharp layer and a blurry layer.

I see no sharpness at all in any of these shots.

Occasionally, the subject matter doesn't need any sharpness and the shot will still work, but this is not the case here IMO.

I'd have to agree with most of your comments. I couldn't seem to get sharpness. I was using the layers but maybe it's because I had the gaussian blur layer over the other layers, maybe I need to put priority on the sharp layer. hmmm.
The Casino does get washed out. To respond to the non-ortonized area vs ortonized question. I think I could do that with masked areas. I'll work on that. I think I need some lessons on paintshop
