If you don't mind my asking, what camera are you using? The reason I ask is that some Nikon models offer Commander Mode through the built in flash.

D80 - I do use the pop-up flash as the master but sometimes I would like to have a full flash unit on camera along with remotes...

Don't think anyone on this board has the SB900 yet... I was shooting with it at my camera shot the other day....

Great flash.... but only slightly higher guide rating than the already great (and cheaper) SB800...

I'm cheap.. so I wouldn't spend the extra money on it... in fact if i used CLS I'd most likely command with the camera and buy a few more SB600's to fill the gap... three for the price of one.... or even more if you pick em up used...

I'm even too cheap for that so I flash manually with cactus triggers and vivitars with an sb600 in the mix..

For you.... if you got the money and aren't bothered by it's size I don't think you'll find a better flash... the SB900 rocks...

If you are looking for a equally competent but more affordable CLS system you can save money with SB800... or save even more with SB600's using your camera......

    good luck!

Good advise! You can prolly pick up three 600s for the price of the SB900.
