I feel like there's some stuff missing.
the upload kind lightened the blacks the picture originally was a bit darker

If you think the board software mashed it then make sure it's < 250KB and 1024 pixels wide before uploading. Anything larger gets resized by the board software and you may find it mangles the image a bit though it's not usually a colour issue.
