    Default Backlit Grasses

Walking along a trail recently with the sun behind me I passed a section of dead looking grass. It was totally boring to me and I barely even looked at it.
Later, on my way back, now walking towards the sun, I rounded the corner and saw the grasses in a different light ... literally.

I'm wondering though, is this photo something that just appeals to me because I was there? Or does it also appeal to others as well?

It does have some appeal. Does kind of have the feel of an advertisement background though.

That's an interesting thought. Kind of like you expect it to pan back and some blonde chick will run through with hair flowing and holding a shampoo bottle??

With dead grass? It'll be for a product for those in their "golden years". I can't quite decide whether I like the orange cast or not. If it was a smidge brighter, I think I would.

I love this shot, the composition, the colours, the use of DoF, the bokeh, the back light .. just a great shot, worth framing and selling ...

just shows what good light can do. while I do like it for what it is, I would have tried to find a focal point in the grass itself. Maybe a surprise bit of color or an insect. Probably you did and there wasn't one, but I though I'd throw it out there.

I've come back and looked at this a couple of times to provide the critique you are looking for but I am still finding it difficult to put it into words. I do like the shot and your composition which puts the in-focus grass in the bottom left and bottom centre squares (assuming rule of thirds) and the shade in the foreground with the highlights in the back. I guess the critique is difficult for me, because while I can find no specific fault with the image I just kind of feel it's missing something but I can't tell you what that something is, sorry.
