It's bad imo due to the loss of jobs.
People will just keep shopping online or in remaining big box stores and so most of the money won't make it to a local retailer.... (who almost always have higher prices anyway since they don't have the buying.... power which is a major turnoff for the vast vast majority of people). In Quebec, we are special because the majority are French in a country where the majority are English. So we too have/had that shop local mentality....until Walmart came to Quebec around 15 years ago. Lo and behold all that shop local talk turned to BS when way cheaper prices became far more important.
It's tough all over. Hard to compete with Amazon.com and smaller internet retailers who have nearly no overhead.
