I'm thinking they are a bit too dark as I re-review them...should I go back to the same settings as the night before?

They are all much too dark, you are correct. Perhaps try backlighting the crystal and using a reflector for the foreground.

I think it's time to decide on exactly what part of the image needs to be in focus CasilIt seems to be different every time.
I'm wondering if a more direct light source to create more shadow further back in the photo might work well here.
