I really like this. The lighting is excellent and the composition spot-on. Unfortunately, it seems to suffer from some pretty nasty purple fringing.
the purple is a side light.
How about that?
I think I like the 1st shot better. I could see it was purple lighting due to the purple shadow in her hand. I think it gives a nice softening effect somehow.
The treatment also looks nice and you've left her eyes nice and sharp with a strong catchlight.
Thanks for comments
I prefer the first one too. Great focus on the eyes. There is some purple lighting in the first one.

Each to their own for purple lighting or no purple lighting it seems
Nice job, Chantelle! I am curious, how did you achieve the effect of etherealness? I can't think of a better word to ask what I am thinking.
I'm not a fan of the purple lighting at all as it's really quite distracting and takes away from the image, aside from that though - Really well done portrait! Everything else is totally working for me.
I much prefer coloured light for backgrounds not models unless it's for a specific effect (red light for evil - green for monstrous etc).
