well allow me to provide today's lecture:
'Bluenoser' is used to refer to residents of Nova Scotia. Popular belief is that is comes from the Schooner 'The Bluenose' which was a famous fishing schooner and never lost a race. It's on the Canadian dime but that's a different lecture and I must not digress.
the term bluenoser actually came from fishermen. they had knit blue mittens and when they rubbed their noses when out to see the dye came out of the mittens and onto their noses.
there aren't you glad you asked. Of course our noses are not blue anymore....
