I really like the pattern that the gasoline has caused on the water and i think you do to and that's why it may have caught your attention. But then I look at the cigarette butts and i am distracted. I think I would have tried to remove a few of them gently...not sure...it may have killed the pattern.
If it was an 'essay' on pollution, maybe it's apt.

Either way I'd boost the contast here big time and sharpen quite a bit as well. Can i take a stab at it?

Just as a related point to others...If the intent is indeed the quest to isolate or draw attention to a shape for artistic purposes, then we must also pay close attention to anything else in the frame that is a potential distraction. Personally I'll move things around physically or recompose if possible.

    Hope that helps,

    Marko

yeah you can try but I ask that you give me step by step instructions. Please. I use PS3
Those are actually sticks. Not cigarette butts. None of us smoke. LOL. But I do see how that can be distracting. This is the first time I have ever done something like this. LOL

Ok - I totally forget what PS3 has so i went as simple as possible.
You may not even like this rendition, that's your call, it's very personal.

Image - adjust - levels - and these are the values i put in the boxes. Input Levels 91 .82 236
Then sharpen - unsharp mask and these are the values I input.
    amount 100%
    Radius 1.0
    Threshold:0

You can simply use the sliders to test out the sharpness you want.

That's all i did. Then i saved it as a medium quality jpeg.

    Hope that helps

    No prob.
You could still play a lot more trying to change hues which will also give different effects. Enjoy!
