    Default icy creek

After hiking an hour along the trail I came to this spot. I believe that there are lots of photo ops here. I wanted to play with getting the silky water effect. I did not have a tripod and the bridge I was on was snowy. So I used my hand as a tripod (laid flat on the snow). this worked to a certain extent and I was playing wit the f-stop values to figure out what is the best. Then a dog began to bark on the property nearby. It was a doberman and I did not want my dogs to get into a scrap (D'Arcy would be okay but Belle can be a bit prickly). So I snapped a few more and then moved on.

this is the best of bunch (f20 and ISO 200). so when I go back what would the recommendations be? (I may schlep the tripod or look into getting a bean bag).

Certainly looks like a cool spot with plenty of shots waiting to be taken.
Definitely take the tripod along for those long exposures if you want the silky water. If you are restricted on shutter speed even after shooting on your lowest ISO and highest F-stop then look for somewhere where the water is moving more quickly.

Don't do what I did last time I was a location like this and only saw the scenes and not the individual beauty.

thanks MA. You've been seeing lots of my photos from this walk. I wanted to play in this area but the damn dog got in the way.

Do you have a Gorilla pod that will handle your camera and lens? If not take the tripod. Oh, if you have a circular polarizer use that too it will give youa couple stops slower and you can control reflections on the water too.
