Yin and Yang

I have thought about this shot for a while and finally decided to give it a go...a few beans and some platters I bought recently, my flash and a run thru Silver effex.
Please let me know where it needs improvement. I have to iron my tablecloth next time for sure but this is a quick test run....probably one of many until I get what I want.

Cool idea. The Yin and the Yang are normally vertical though aren't they?

The flash has created very harsh shadows ... was that your intention? If not perhaps dial back the flash a bit, shoot through tissue paper or similar, or bounce it off something.

Nice play!
I like the black version too. The white one wasn't white enough. This is a difficult one but, I'd like to see more light on the black beans, parts of them have gone too black imo. The whole shot may actually be underexposed a bit. This requires careful play but I think you can make this sing even louder.

What I did was set the flash for -2.5 and turned it away from the shot so I"m not sure if i bounced it correctly...I just didn't want too much flash on the shot. Still trying to figure this flash thing out. I figure it's about time!
Any tips on how you think the flash would work here would be most helpful because this is a real weakness for me.

why not try light painting this one? that way you can control the light.
