    Default Whale Of A Tail

This was taken on a whale watching tour off St Johns Nfld. In a about a two hour period, this was the only time we saw the tail come out of the water. Patience and lots of luck needed.

I played around with the saturation, contrast and sharpening. Is there anything you would change?

    Thanks
    Steve

nice timing on the tail! I like the spray of water and the detail that you managed to get as well. For me the blue is oversaturated and I would back that off a bit. It's too bad that the whale didn't leap for you, but I expect that they make crappy models.

what is that band of magenta/purple at the waterline? It looks weird enough to distract me from that marvelous tail.

Nice timing. I so want to get out whale watching this year. We keep putting it on our list each year and keep putting it off for other things. Hot air ballooning is the other one.

I agree with the blue cast. You might try just adding some yellow via a colour balance tool rather than desaturating the blue and see how that goes.

    Welcome to the forums Steve!

    Thanks for the response.
I tend to like a lot of color but sometimes it does get a over done.
I'll play around with it and see how it works out.

Excellent capture! A few minor processing tweaks as suggested and you have a winner there. In addition to what others have said...I may be wrong, but to my eye it looks oversharpened. I don't know what sharpening tool you used, but looks like it could be masked more to the edges, and just a tad subtler touch. But wow, what a great shot!

Wonderful composition and timing Welcome Steve

I agree on the blue, and perhaps this was a tad underexposed and the purple in the bkgd is colour noise?
