Old junk from around the farm
Interesting old unit you've found there. I can't tell what it is.
Shot 1 - looks like the exposure is quite good. Some shadows created by the flash. A higher ISO and less flash might have helped reduce those.
Colour balance looks to be slightly yellow also.
The composition is a bit messy for my liking. The wheel appears to be the main subject here but it sure is competing for attention with all the other stuff sround. I think I'd have zoomed or cropped this in much tighter myself.
Shot 2 - looks to be slightly under-exposed to me which has created a slight blue cast this time.
Composition wise you've placed the belt drive right on one of the power points for the Rule Of Thirds which I think helps for sure here. Again though, if that belt is the main subject then I'd have zoomed or cropped in much tighter on it. If the whole unit is the real subject then I'd be zoomed out more.
If you have access to this farm then you are lucky ... there are obviously a multitude of things to shoot and learn from
MA's summed it up quite nicely I think and I don't really have anything to add but I want to re-iterate that a tighter crop on number one would make it better I think. The wood along the left side is quite distracting.
Looks like a fun place to go shooting. Hopefully, you'll have the opportunity to try again.
Cleaned up a bit
That's a huge improvement t_top. You can see how the things you took out no longer compete with the subject AND the subject is most definitely the wheel ... there's no question of that in this shot.
This shot was taken without the flash too I see so no shadows. It could do with a touch of contrast I think.
Absolutely. It's very cool to see the difference between the first and second shot. Nicely done!
Nice! I think its an old thresher?
