Heres another one of my flower pictures. I know that there is something in front of the camera but for some reason I liked it.

A nice image; a couple of comments. It's at least one stop over-exposed, and the highlights on the blooms are almost blown. I suspect this was a result of matrix or wide-area metering being tricked by the large dark area behind the flower. In this case, spot metering a couple of points on the flower and averaging them (or using the daylight exposure rule) would have improved the exposure. Additionally, watch your backgrounds. In this case, the background is just focused enough to be distracting. A larger apeture would have created less DoF and thereore a softer, more pleasing background.

Just my $00.02 worth - your milage may vary.

Thank-you very much for the advice I really appreciate it. The camera I have isn't to good when it comes to aperture and lens speed and stuff, and now that I look at your right it is over exposed. I am getting an SLR tomorrow morning so I will be using that camera from then on. I will still need to learn about aperture and stuff, but that will all come in due time. Thank-you for the comments though, you definitly noticed things that I overlooked.

Glad to help, and congrats on the upcoming arrival. What camera are you getting?

I'm not sure yet I have to look around and see what my options are. I wanted to get one brand new but they're to expensive so I'm getting one from pawn shop. One of my friends has an SLR that she got from a pawn shop and shes had it for years, works perfect, so I'm really excited. I can't wait to fiddle around with the settings and try to figure them out. The cam I have now pretty much sets everything for you except for flash and ISO so it's really hard to work with...I'm upgrading...lol.

    Hi Nikki2291 - welcome again!

tirediron is bang on here with his critique! Distractions in images are a HUGE part of what separates a good from a great photograph.

I think it would be easier Nikki2291 if you embedded the image in the post so we can see and critique in 1 window. In the future, can you just upload the images so we can have an easier time learning from them?

    Thx!
