Portriats of Young Family

My friend of a friend just had a baby three weeks ago and has asked me to take some portraits of her,her husband and the baby this weekend. I plan on listening to Marko's podcast on babies and newborns again, but i would love some more suggestions pointers from all of you. I don't have any equipment (soft box,reflectors) Lighting and posing are big things I need help with. What are somethings I just need to know before heading for the shoot?

This is a tough one Robin as you don't have enough gear and are just starting out.

Listen to the podcast theer's more than you need to guide you and it's all in one place....as per the podcast try using SOFT light, eliminate distractions from the background and focus on the eyes. Anything white can be used to act as a reflector.

You were sure right Marko, it was a tough one. I was ready to throw in my camera after this photo shoot.

Needless to say it wasn't all for not. I learned a lot from all of my mistakes. I'm just glad that they didn't pay me. They would have been very disappointed. I'm still thinking of telling them that I "lost all my pictures on my camera...shame" And Just forgetting about the whole thing.

Well I'll post one in the "show picture" forum. I already know all the things that are wrong with it.

Thanks for your reply and letting me know that it would be hard with the equipment I have (none)It made me feel not so bad. Maybe I won't throw out my camera just yet.

Why would you even think about throwing in the towell. That shot of the baby is perfect! I love it, great imagination for composition, I would have never came up with that shot. Well done! Keep it up, and keep shooting... and don't ever sell yourself short... LITERALLY! Don't give your talent away; charge something, anything, but don't do it for free, you are much better than that
