Back up software

I have started using EZBack-it-up for backing up my photographs on external hard drives. It is very easy to use and it's free, so no cutting into the new lens budget I am using it with Vista 64 and it works fine, I have heard the scheduled backup doesn't work with Vista 64, but neither do I so it's fine by me.

Greg, i think this is such an important topic.

There are a few other solutions that are free as well, one from Microsoft is SyncToy and can be run on a schedule (I use Vista 32 bit and it works - odd that Vista 64 bit doesn't but I digress).

Am am paranoid about back ups. I also have a back up hard drive that I keep at my in-laws and update it every 4 or 5 months. AND for any of my photos I back them up on line. If you have a Hotmail account you get 25 Gb FREE storage. The downside is that the file size limit is 50Mb but that is good for any of my DNG, CR2 or RAW formats (frequently manipulated images in PSD can be 120 Mb). The upload time is slow but that depends more on your ISP. Once you run out of the 25Gb storage space, simply open another Hotmail account. I don't even use it for emailing.

Never lose another document or photo again!

Time Machine in Leopard and Snow Leopard works great for those on Mac. I have a Drobo (http://www.drobo.com/) unit with four 1TB Seagate drives in it for my main backup - super redundant, tones of space. I am, admittedly, lax on the off-site side of things, though.
