My New Tripod

I finally got around to making my first accessory purchase today. I bought a Digipod Ball head that can hold up to 4KG BH-55B and a Digipod Professional Tripod (Aluminium) A2840 to go along with it.

This is for my Xsi camera.

The reason I went with this one was the screw to tighten leg locks. The leaver types tend to break off in extreme cold weather. In addition, the price was affordable. It should work as a first tripod and it can be my back up if I go with one of the more expensive strong light weight ones later on.

Now I’m saving for a good flash and a telephoto lens I think ! (Undecided on the lens). The kit lens has been fun to play with.

Congrats! There are some shots where a tripod is an absolute must! If you have an XSi then you really should spend the $130 on the 50mm f1.8. It's a wonderful and sharp lens for a very nice price and just great to have in your bag. I like to use it on the rainy, cloudy mornings in downtown when I'm street shooting. I'll put it on f1.8 to f2.8 and ramp up the ISO to 1600. That's what helped me get this shot: http://www.photography.ca/Forums/f21/passing-12895.html

Thanks guys. I made the plunge and bought the cheapest lightest Cannon lens on the market today a 50 mm 1:1.8 II lens. My new tripod will come in handy with this lens. One of my complaints with my kit 18-55 lens is taking photos of my grandchildren in close quarters (it was sometimes difficult.) The reviews say it’s cheap in price and construction however it is a very clear and sharp lens. I let you know how I like it when I get a chance to take some more photos of the kids. I plan on buying some filters and a lens hood for this lens later on this month.

That's a wonderful lens, Peter. Yes, it's inexpensive and only plastic construction but very sharp and clear. They only thing you'll want to be careful of with that lens if you are photographing the kids is that at f1.8 you can end up with very clear, sharp eyes but an out of focus nose because the depth of field is very shallow at that f-stop.

Thanks they don't need their noses anyhow. Lol This is my first lens and it won’t break the bank. I can always try doing what you did and try some street photography. It’s a start.

I really want a good telephoto lens and I wont be scrimping on that one.
