Default Photo Assignment or simply an Exercise

Not sure if this is an assignment or simply an exercise to try. I just finished listening to the latest podcast on film photography and and it brought back memories of when I used to shoot film/slides. I remember I used to slow down more and take more time with each picture (and this was pointed out in the interview that this is one advantage of film photography).

This made me think as an assignment or maybe just an exercise to do. Go out and take just one picture (or just a few) like you had had film in your camera. You will have to slow done and make sure each picture counts. I know a lot of us (well at least I'm at guilty of this) of taking a lot of pictures, chimping a lot, and hoping one will turn out.

It's a good idea, to be sure. I find some people can be shutter happy and simply click away at everything they see and then they end up with thousands of frames to go through when they get back to their computer. I tend to think more and shoot less. Probably because I originally learned on film where every shot cost me money. Though the ability to get in a few extra shots with digital is definitely a bonus I don't recommend relying on it all the time.

It would be a fun assignment to see say 12 successive shots(is it possible to check that from EXIF data?) like when you went out with a 12 exposure film roll.

Alright, I'm down with this... did something similar as part of the online photo course I did last year. Let's set a challenge.....

Pick a date range (1 week?) and we'll take exactly 12 shots, no more, no less and post the results of all of them... we need a name for it... how about "The Photographer's Dozen"?

What date shall we start? Should we have a minimum date range to keep people from shooting too fast (keep your mind out of the gutter, MA)???

In keeping with the theme, I assume this would mean no post processing, cropping etc. i.e a jpg straight out of the camera
I welcome all critique and comments on any of my photos

The Jpeg part takes care of the levels and the sharpening.....But then that means we can't dodge and burn? (Which is an essential part of darkroom work or digital work and must be done locally for images to sing)
That would be the only thing to think about.

I hear you Marko, but for those of us that never had a darkroom, that was the reality. We were stuck with what came back from the photo processing store that just set the machine to 18% grey and that was it. For that reason I eventually started shooting Kodachrome transparencies, so the processing didnt interfere.
