Default Always trust your own instincts

Well finally starting to get active again, I had to go to my permanent gallery to pick up some of my work to bring to the open invite to a show I am doing I mentioned in another post. As I arrived I was greeted with very good news, I have set a new record for one of photos on price. It is just funny it was a photo posted here a while back and it was suggested I do some PSing and I am very anti Digital Manipulation on my own works, what I shoot with my camera should be able to be printed right from the Camera.

I have made $200.00 more than any other prints I have sold and I demand a lot for one of my photos since I think they are great works of Photographic Art, it was my own opinion but seems the market agrees with me. Since my accident my sales hit a slump but I am as active as I can be for now and it is making a difference. I have become more proactive about selling and marketing myself. So the moral of this is trust your gut instincts, even if your in the minority in your opinion, they are your Photographs and you need to make the decisions about what the final product will be.

How you see your own work is what counts in the end, as you learn getting critiques is a great way to learn but also know they are just opinions and you can either heed or ignore them, but in the end always trust your own instincts. Be proud of what you produce and confident in your ability once you learn to be a Photographer.

Good to hear your sales are going so well. You're absolutely right to be proud. And true, everybody has their own opinion, and following your own instinct can lead to great results. But good job!

Why I brought it, you should and need to try. The hardest part was getting over the fact I felt I was overpriced, I was not worth nearly what I went to market at, getting the confidence is the hardest part and also being slightly arrogant helps, even if your not, I am really not but when I do the gallery openings or meet potential buyers I talk like I am the Lord of Photography, the whole idea is to sell yourself. I just hate doing gallery show openings, they drive me loopy because just how the Toronto market is, being self assured and slightly arrogant attracts buyers to your works, I hate it but if it is what I need to do I will do it. The fun gallery show opening I am doing next week is one of a very few that will be fun and relaxed. It is a Market and you will compete against thousands of others in most urban centres, so both you and your work need to stand out, you can be confident but if you have weak work people will just pass you by. And this just pertains to the Fine Art Market, any other I am clueless about.

Even if I don't let me know if you feel like it and I would be happy to show you around or just meet for a Beer, since having it with Marko is maybe out this year since I won't be going to Montreal in the foreseeable future.
