This is my first post on the forum, and my first project for about 5 years... so be nice!

I'm at the early stages and would like some thoughts on what I have created so far, the main subject is.. being a female these days

First off Sarah, welcome to the forum.

As for the three images you posted:

#1 - it is a little gray. You need to increase the contrast, separate to whites and blacks. There really is no focal point to attract my eye other than the hole in the pedals near the top left corner (and I don't feel thats where you want me to look)

#2 - I like this one. The reds and sharpness on the flower, they all work well together. I would have liked to have seen the entire frame filled with hair (like the other two images). The space at the bottom half of the image with no hair does not work for me.

#3 - it has a nice focal point of the knot at the bottom right.

All three images are nice and sharp, colors are great in #2, all technically nice images. I don't understand how the theme ties in with being a female (thats a small lie, I have a wife and two daughters, all with long hair, so it is all over the house). I do think you are on to something with hair as a theme and it could make a great set.

We usually don't comment on the art itself because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We usually just comment on the technical aspects of the image.

Thanks for all the helpful feedback I have had the best feedback on my second red tinted photograph, and I think this is where I will focus myself on, but I do agree the bottom half needs improving. I'm still not 100% on where I'm going with the project, But I'm really interested in using everyday objects to create a different kind of documentary photography (the 3rd abstract kinda photo) I suppose the main theme is quiet reflective of my own feelings as a women, and pressures of the media on women too look perfect. I would love to hear anybody's thoughts on progressing the project

I was looking through your Flickr, you have some great shots and sets in there. The TV's are awesome, and the greenish hayfield on page two (just before the TV's) is my favorite.

Thanks! The TV photographs were for my final project at uni, its all about advertisement, and the power television has in the way we think.

Welcome to the forum Sarah,

For comments on this series, I'd pay attention to brightness distractions and 'holes' in the image. The eye naturally wanders to bright(est) areas in photographs, try placing the focal points there especially when you are in full control of the light. Be very attentive as to how and where it falls on objects in your image. In 2/3 of these images the brightest element is bare light on a whitish colour which for me is a distraction. noticeable

This is a photograph of a used cotton make pad, I have used a Photoshop filters on the photograph, Any thoughts?
