Default Hello / Good beginner websites?

Hi, I've been playing with compact digital for years and have finally decided to take the plunge into DSLRs.

It seems like it is a fairly nice community here for asking newbie questions compared to the occasionally trollish forums on dpreview that I have been lurking on. Anyway, I really like the podcast too, especially the episodes on buying a DSLR and lenses. Cheers!

Thanks. By the way, which photography websites or forums would you suggest looking at for reliable camera and lens info or information on getting started with a DSLR? (Besides this one I guess).

Right now, I'm looking at dpreview.com, imaging resource, and slrgear.com. I used to read Ken Rockwell's website a lot also, but there seems to be some controversy over why his opinions are unreliable, so I don't read him as much now.

Hey there MSAP - welcome to the forums!
Good lens resources you have! bythom.com is also good for nikon lenses cameras.

How come people don't like Kenrockwell, is it because he has strong opinions or because people think his info is wrong/false? sorry to threadjack - but I just heard this the other day from someone else as well.

    Thx - Marko

Cool, thanks for the link. I'm still not sure if I'm going with Nikon or Canon or Pentax, but I'll keep it on my list.

I get the impression Ken Rockwell sort of caters to what beginners want to hear in order to get more site traffic. So perhaps he overstates the quality of inexpensive gear. Sometimes the gear test sites agree with him, but sometimes not. Some people also that he tries to generate controversy in order to garner more site traffic as well. He occasionally drops useful information mixed in with the other stuff though, so I'm never quite sure what's reliable on his website.

cool thanks masp. I've checked out his site a few times because he ranks high in the results I google. I'm selective with the info I accept as truth so I've never had a problem with his info...but yup very opinionated.
Strobist.com is very good for lighting.
