Just wanted to say thank you to those that have helped me in the last couple of days. With the kind words, links, and so forth.

I tell yah..I felt pretty discouraged the first day after I got my new camera. The only button that was in the same place was the ON/OFF (and even that had a new function with it).

I really started to double guess things, myself and the photography.

But a couple of days later..with some great advice from this site, I've got a little gain. Buttons are starting to come to me..the ones I've never seen before are starting to make sense to me. It is amazing what this camera can do..or more so say..what I can make it do. I am now having a blast learning it.

You have a new camera!!! I missed this event I'm afraid. Been a bit busy lately. But Alright! I know how long you've wanted something better than you had.

It escapes me though how, you, of all people, could doubt your photography.

Yah...after complaining enough I got one! LOL! D300S. It seems great so far.

I was more so doubting the skills. There was a lot more "stuff" on this camera..things I've never heard of. But after reading a bit, taking a break and setting it on manual for a quick shoot..I was happier. I know what I need to for now and the rest I will work at with my own rate to learn it and not forget.

I can say officially though. If it wasn't for my D40X and learning from that wonderful little camera..I would never have purchased this one. And if I would have purchased this camera right off the bat..I don't think I would have taken up photography. So I can say..that my first child (D40X) served me well.

Kat after a while you'll love having all the buttons of the D300s. I like not having to go through menus like on my D80 for common quick adjustments.

Not to mention the 51 points of focus, the camera acts as commander for the SB600, SB800, SB900, all your basic functions are at the tip of your fingers without having to take the camera away from your face, amazing clarity and detail from even a cheap lens, a very solid build and feel to the camera.

I think what you did was the right approach and it is the approach many here have taken. Learn your basics on a smaller camera and when and if you decide you want to step up then get the larger more complex, prosumer or pro camera.

I know what you mean...when my husband's focus turned to videography I "borrowed" his D300 so I am now trying to learn not only photography but also the D300 (oh...also photoshop, aperture, etc etc). It's so much more fun than my ol' point and shoot.

This forum has been my classroom...and the love the instructors and the students
