    Default For Dad....

    Long story but poignant.
A photo of Kim and Tim Wiwcha approaching the finish line to finish the race their father Wally had started in 2009. Wally took part in the Penticon Ironman 2009 but passed away after suffering health problems while in the water on the swim leg of the race. The brothers ran the race as a relay team with one doing the bike portion and the other the run portion, both wearing their father's race number (#27) from last year. It was quite emotional to see them complete the last race in the memory of their father who did not have the chance to finish .
Probably my favorite moment from the race was watching these two hand in hand running for their Dad to the finish.

So many other cool stories as well. I saw a woman who completed the race and had an artificial leg as well as a combo of a man with an artificial leg with a blind man. They swam tied by a tether for the 3.8km rode a tandem bike (180km) and tethered together to complete the marathon (42.2)portion as well.

People can be stubborn and sentimental gits at times. I wouldn't have it any other way. Great shot telling a poignant story.

Nice touch. My daughter-in-law was in that event this year and qualified for Kona in October.
