    Default Sautee Valley Farmer

I was driving along today and caught a glimpse of a farmer using horse drawn equipment to harvest a corn field. Of coarse I had to stop and check it out since that is something not often seen these days. Got to talking with him and he was explaining how the machine was from 1903 and would cut the stalks, bundle them with the same amount every time, tie a rope with a perfect square knot and then kick them out the back. Was awesome watching it in action, especially the dog telling the horses where to go and when to turn.

he asked me if I would mind getting a couple of pics of him for his aging mom since he was not very technically inclined and all. It was my pleasure to do so and I was really happy how the one with his dog turned out.

He then said I might be interested in getting one of his farm down the road. And he was right. I know this is a landscape in the people forum but it is part of his story. The barn was actually done as a barn raising a few years back when some of his Amish kinfolk came down and they put it up in a day. Was a big deal in these parts since that don't happen!

I really want to go back with some better light though and do some more. This was high noon but take the chance when they come along!

I really like the first one and what a cool story to go with this set.

I like the one with the dog myself. Great story as well.

I've actually changed my mind and like the first one better because of the horses. I have nominated that photo for the month.

Awesome set Richard. All three are excellent with the dog/farmer pic being my fave as well.
    Definitely worth a re-visit.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

I really like this set LQ - well done. Shot 1 would be even stronger imo with a bit more dodging of the left side and darker horse.

Love the story and the pics. Add me to the one with the dog as my favourite. And to be probably overly picky, in the first one I find it cropped just a tad too tight on the right and left. Other than that I really like.

    Thanks everyone!

I agree with the crop but as fast as those big boys were pulling him down through the field I tried getting what I could without getting ran over!
