Default Calgary Stampede Parade, 2013 Edition

A parade is a photographer's dream for the sheer number of opportunities it presents, and a nightmare for the exposure problems presented by backgrounds, lighting and motion. Viveza 2 performs miracles with over and under exposed areas in most of these. They were all shot with my 70-200 between 10 and 11:30 in the morning under a partially cloudy sky. There are always lots of horses in the parade, and street sweepers are a regular part of the parade. This year the biggest applause was for a large group of first responders who dealt with the problems created by the flood. This year's theme for Stampede 101 (hundred and first year) is Hell or High Water.

Great set with heaps of variety and it is obvious a great deal of thought went into the shots (eg the relection of the boy).

Most of us at the bottom half of the world would immediately associate Calgary with the stampede, and I would venture to say many would not know anything beyond that. So thanks for sharing this iconic event.
