I took my daughter on a trip to Manhattan this july. It was a fabulous time. I took this shot at the Guggenheim museum. It was an exhibition of lights to create various shapes. Despite the 'no photo' rule everyone was wildly snapping with their iphones. I couldn't resist taking this.

Very strong image - I dig it

The no photo rule is pure stupidity and archaic these days. (yup I have a strong opinion)

Unless the flash will damage the artwork...museums require people to pay admission prices. Period.
This free publicity in the form of sharing images should be wet dream for any marketing entity.....that has someone young enough in charge to realize the Obvious.
5-6 years ago the power of social media hit most companies enough to make changes....and those that haven't have suffered.
Yeah the Guggenheim is the Guggenheim so i guess they can do whatever they want...but it's still stupid.
Many museums are now allowing photography - and once the majority of them change.... to the point where the Guggenheim starts to lose money (or make less of it because their rules are stricter than other museums) from one year to the next....might happen then.

Add me to the list. The spacing of the silhouettes with the glow of light works really well and it has great depth as well. The hat add another element as well.

I totally agree with you Marko. As long as you are not interfering with others enjoying the work I see no issues with photographs. Funny enough everyone was snapping away with their iphones with no being told to put them away. However, I was told with my 'fancy camera' to put it away.

That's why a lot of photographers are going with small 4/3rds cameras. They don't look near as threatening and 'professional'. They get away with these sort of things with less hassle.

So it's okay to share poor quality blurry photographs....that just genius marketing.

The guy in the hat looks like Leonard Cohen from the back.

Like it Bambi. The silhouette with the hat, and the light beam are perfect, and love the guy off to the side breaking the "No Photo Rule" with the phone.
