Nice capture AntZ. Great expressions. Real cuties - jimmy :)

Thanks Marko, Jimmy.
Took this at local wharf of a light tower.
Had the polarizer on, thus the light and darker blue sky.
Not sure if this fits or not but it's a different point of view to me...

Cool stuff! That little guy sure has gorgeous eyes!
From today's session at the Warhawk:
a warship on the Halifax waterfront. At least I think it's an old warship...

Found this angle today while out shootin' with a friend. The windows of the newer building in the background can be seen in through the windows of the older building that's being demolished. Thought it was cool and "different".

Iguanasan, what a wonderful set of coincidences! It's a shame about the old building - what's left looks like it was still in good shape, at least the walls.
Thanks. The historical society was battling it out with the building owner/developer. Honestly, though, the buildings on that block were old and actually in pretty bad shape. Actually using them would have required a lot of expensive restoration. It's in the downtown core and demolishing only makes sense. I think the developer plans to re-use the brickwork as a facade which is the better solution.
Well, if you've got other pictures of it, throw 'em up, and maybe we can get it identified for you. It's a great photo, but for identifying details the best my husband can say is that it's got a 19th century look to it, with the possibility that it's a corvette built in WWII. Like the Liberty ships, those were an old design thrown together in a hurry, because they could be made in large numbers that way. Canada did have a fair number of them.
He liked your other picture. It involves a ship.
I was trying to remember when riveted construction ended. I know second world war USA started mass production of welded ships but how long after riveting stopped not sure! "Liberty ships"
I would guess older than 1955 don't think any riveted ships were made after that date.
However the canal boats often have washers welded onto the hull to make them look as if riveted.
Okay, that was quick. Mike had some familiarity with the Flower Class Corvette, which was a very likely candidate. It's pretty clear that the one you photographed had sat and rusted somewhere for a bit (look at the pitting in your "viewpoint" picture), and the paint had that cover the metal to preserve it look (common solution for ships, trains and planes that someone doesn't have the money to restore). That meant it was more likely from WWII, rather than the 19th century, though it's based on the design of an old whaler from the 19th century.
The ship you photographed is the only one of its type left in existence, the HMCS Sackville. I've included a couple of links - one is the official trust website, the other gives a bit of history and her "vital stats".

"Flower Class Corvette"
What the?? It's warship right?
Was this the ship of choice for the 'Excessively Buoyant' (I'd say 'gay' but it might sound a bit rude or something) crews??? :headslap:
wow, thanks. You are right, that is the ship! good work.
yes it was a warship. I did some research based on the links from Q1. It was an anti-submarine boat and saw action in ww2. so excessively bouyant or not, she was a valuable ship in her day.
Ok guys, I've got one.
Yesterday I took a walk trying to find a subject that could match this month assignment.
Now, do you think that this one fit this category ?
oh most definitely! very cool!
Lovin, that is awesome.
Finally took my camera out. These are some of Mel's controversial moose. People either luv 'em or hate 'em. I am fascinated by them.
Looks great but I have a feeling there is more to them than meets the eye. I will guess there are some how made to look like some one and since we don't watch base ball here we have no way of knowing how good the figures are we can only comment on the photo.
To left looking a drain pipe image is straight every other point shows as an angle I find it slightly distracting and wonder if "Mad Aussie" method of darkening background as shown in his views of the memorial of spitfire photos could help.
Also would like to see whole moose as I guess the markings on foot have some point to those who are into USA sport.
But I would also guess the face says something and without knowing what that is to alter the shot could distract from being able to recognise who they are suppose to be?
Some back ground information would be nice. Specially a link to who they are!
You refer to "Mel's" should we know him?
I did look at both teams sites but no one seems to use either of the two numbers so guess something from past?
Maybe google Mel Lastman, a pretty colorful character.
Thanks now it fits much better.
Thanks Eric,
I think the street was crooked or maybe it was me. I'll have to go back and try again.
There about a thousand moose about the city, whoever owns one dresses them up as they please. I don't know the story of these guys.
Mel was our previous mayor. The moose were his idea to increase tourism. He also (once) called in the army when it snowed in Toronto.
Here's a couple I shot today. First time I've really taken advantage of the flip screen on the D5000.

I like reaching for the sky, with only a few of the leaves in focus.
I would try with Photoshop first what do you think of this?

OK low res but with clone tool and crop tool you can fill in gaps enough although it is all a matter of taste and you could well prefer the original?
Much better. I have photoshop elements, but haven't yet learned how to use it. I struggled with it for a few days and got fed up.
Did you clone out the pipe or just cut it out?
Looking up......

Last one is very cool Casil, some edges are a bit soft but very cool.
Thanks for the catch Greg...I threw it into some sharpening and reposted so I hope it is better. :) I am going to go back for that one again and try some different stuff on it as I think there's some neat potential here. :)
In the middle of a repair on one of Mike's RC planes.
Pipe cloned out first but cropped second time so may be cut out anyway. Not used Elements but with CS4 when using clone there is a tick box called Perspective that must be ticked also all boxes for size and resolution empty you can select all the image then drag corners of box I went further than the image so ended up with some white corners then enter and image then straight. Next used clone stamp to fill missing bits then cropped second time where not quite right.
In the old days of bellows cameras there were adjustments on the camera but you could not see the effect through view finder so you had to replace plate with a bit of paper and put bag over ones head to see upside down back to front image on paper and adjust until straight then replace with plate and take picture.
I have one of these cameras but never used it. Can't buy film any more and plates are coated with silver nitrate which it seems one can very easy produce nitroglycerine in error and many a budding photographer of years ago were blown up. Not my idea of fun.
So thought it was better to learn how to use Photoshop? I have been lucky been taught twice once with Photoshop 7 when learning IT and then with CS4 when learning photography but it has some many features would not think anyone knows it all?
Bought a disk in radio rally of Lynda.com with even more instructions yet this disk missed out HDR and have not found Lab Color either.
I find loading even a Jpeg in camera RAW allows one to do some corrections much easier than just loading into Photoshop and after posting I tried that to darken background and lighten heads but did not like the result.
The Mad Aussie seems to have worked out a method which he used on some monument to spitfire pilots which worked very well but not sure how he did it?
There are so many programs each can do some bit better than another. I use Paint shop pro for copy and paste work as better than Photoshop for that function as it auto sizes and it seems there are so many bits where other programs excel over Photoshop.
I can work out technical bits but I am rotten at selecting the shot in first place I lack the Artist bit. Just too much the engineer my wife is far better at selecting what makes a good photo.
Maybe if I view enough of them on here I will in the end learn that too?
Keep em coming! These are AWESOME
OK. How's this?
