    Default Ottawa Ontario

This is my first post on these forums, hopefully some of you will find it useful. A friend of mine sent me this list of around 100 different locations in and around the Ottawa Valley that photography 'hotspots'. I believe the list gets updated, so if you're in the area give them a try.

The link goes to a google map entry with all of the locations marked and a small blurb on each:

Looks like a very handy resource for those living in that area.

Thanks for sharing. I have a potential trip to Ottawa at the end of May so this might come in very handy indeed!

As it turns out I'll be in Ottawa at the end of the month. Tuesday and Wednesday (June 1st and June 2nd) evening. Anyone in Ottawa have any suggestions on where to shoot in the early evening hours near downtown?

    Hi Iguanasan,

Here are some locations in downtown Ottawa to consider:

ByWard Market: Located off Sussex Drive. Good for street photography, grabing a meal or a brew. The outdoor food vendors close down at 6pm, the arts and crafts vendors close down at 8 or 9pm.

Wellington Street: The Parliment Hill, Rideau Canal system (between the Hill and Chateau Laurier), Fairmont Chateau Laurier (Yousef Karsh lived here), Union Station (across the street of the Chateau Laurier), Supreme Court of Canada (2 blocks west of the Hill). Along this street there are alot of architectural elements.

Sussex Drive: Peace Keepers Memorial, National Art Gallery (with a giant spider), Major's Hill Park (some floral and a sculpture). Besides the National Art Gallery is Nepean Point (soon to be torn down) from here is a nice view of the Ottawa river.

Elgin Street: National War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (I was thinking of doing a photo essay of this some day)

Sparks Street: Okay for street photogaphy

Across the river in Gatineau is the Museum of Civilization that was designed by Douglas Cardinal. It is a beautiful design.

I hope this helps and gives you some ideas. Check out Google maps to see the streets and locations. The satellite view might be helpful

    Take Care

    Chris

Thank you very much, Chris. I'll only have a few hours unfortunately as I'll be there for a training course so lunch hour and evenings in and around Lyon and Albert Street. I'll check these locations on the map and make a few plans. Cheers!

Okay, so I know what part of downtown you are going to be at. I guess you will be walking. There are a couple of other places near your location you can check out:

Garden of the Provinces and Territories. There is a fountain on the corner of Bay and Wellington

Christ Church Cathedral Anglican and the National Archives of Canada offer architectural elements. Along Wellington there is the Bank of Canada building that has elements of rivival. The evening sun should give you some nice lighting. I hope. :-) We have been getting a lot of rain lately.

Supreme Court of Canada. There are statues made by the same sculptor who worked on the Vimy Ridge Memorial over in Europe

The Parliment Hill is not too far from your location.

There is also the Canadian War Museum which is a neat architectural design. Might be a bit far to walk.

Again you should be able to get an idea of what these palces look like on Google street view and images.
