    Hi Colin,

I would suggest Adobe Lightroom 3, because it's easier than Photoshop and it's photography dedicated.

I love my LR3! It is pricey, but I do not know anyone who uses it who does not like it. It is very intuitive to learn and in combination with Photoshop Elements which is not quite so pricey you can do almost anything.

There is also Aperture for Macs which looks quite nice.

another vote for LR3. After literally years of trying different things, I found LR to be intutive and much easier to conceptualize than say, Photoshop or apps that work like it does. Yes, it's pricey, but worth it.

Aperture is like iPhotos on steroids it is a Mac only app and it woks as well as Aperture 3 and it is $100 less in cost.

Photoshop is the big daddy of editing tools but it is costly and has a bit of a learning curve.

Photoshop Elements has about 85% of Photoshops power at a fraction of the cost. The learning curve is cushioned a bit but still there. The Mac versions comes with Bridge which is extremely powerful.

Two low cost general editing tool for Mac are Pixelmator and Funtastic Photo.

I have all these programs and more, just ask if you have specific questions.
If you like my images I am very happy but please don’t nominate them.

I'm also trying out a few programs. I know in the price range LR3 seems to have the market but I'm having RAM problems with it. I'm running a mac mini w/2gb ram. I was trying out a saturation brush in both LR3 and Aperture3 while keeping an eye on my Activity Monitor. Both programs used up all available ram. However Aperture3 seemed to still be able to brush smoothly while LR3 lagged to where a small stroke took up to 5 seconds to show.

Is there any kind of setting I can change to help LR3 keep up? Don't really want to upgrade hardware just yet.

There's always GIMP and Picasa and there are MAC OS versions of both. They are smaller and require fewer system resources.

Aperture is only $79 in the new app store. This now gives it a huge price advantage over Lightroom at $299.
