Thanks, asnow. That was a week where the highs didn't get beyond the mid-20s F. A lot of things get an ice buildup near running water. The curvy patterns are, believe it or not, also ice. It's a channel off the river, very shallow. By fall there's only a skim of water in it. Once the freezing weather hits you get a thin layer of ice, which shatters easily. I'm not sure, but I think the banding is from it freezing in sections, combined with dustings of frozen condensation. There wasn't really any snow during that time.
