ooooh, the middle one is really nice. as is the third. have you done much post processing? I can see a lot of potential wow in them.

More on the middle one than the third. I do tend to have too light a touch, I think, but better than the results I get with too heavy a touch. For comparison, here are the files from RAW (in order) totally untouched before export and some amount of adjustment in ViewNX before export. I did more in PSE. As you can see I cloned and cropped a bit on the middle one, and warmed it up a lot. It was in the shade. The other got a bit less adjustment. I wanted to keep the texture of the snow and some contrast between shadow and light. Not as much there as I'd like.

I do need to get on the stick and learn a bit more about post processing (I'll take hints and alternative ideas, gladly). Main problem right now is time, and the need to thrash around a bit to see what happens when I do something.

I know how that is. For me, if I can't make the shot work with subtle changes, I'll go for big ones. Those usually turn our ridiculous and I scrap the whole thing.

Thanks, Marko. I like that particular spot, but it's a frustrating one. It's a spillway on an artificial pond. Happens the banks and brush really limit where you can stand if you aren't dressed to get wet or dirty. Depending on what is trying to wash across the little dam you can get some interesting play or water and objects.

Thanks, MA. It's not cool, though, it's cold. Still looking forward to finding that out?

I've been in NZ cold ... maybe minus 10 c ... but not Canada minus 40c cold! Not too keen on that.

Idaho's not usually that ferociously cold, though it depends on which winter.
