Default Above and Below the Falls

Purgatory Brook is becoming one of my favorite places to explore. From Upper to Lower falls it's about 3 miles, but I think I prefer the brook near lower falls. It's amazing and I can't wait to go back when the mountain laurel blooms.

These falls and the area just downstream of it were once part of a sawmill operation built in 1811. Just at the falls themselves there is the remains of a dam and further downstream all kinds of ruined machinery and a bridge. It burned down in 1960(ish), but I don't know when it ceased operations. I have weird old machinery shots somewhere...

Lovely images, WD. I always like to see smoothed water and the "double falls" is really cool.

Brook! That's a raging river in this country!! A brook is something we can step over in a normal stride

Very nice photos both. Especially like the comp in that 2nd shot.

Those are brilliant shots, WD. I love the movement of the water as well as the vividness of the leaves.

Very nice WD. Love to see that vibrant Spring greenery again. (just wish it was here)
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

thanks guys. It was a great afternoon. I could hardly believe I didn't get rained on. Oh and Bambi - the leaves in the fg are mountain laurel which is an evergreen so our leaves are still probably as puny as yours. Speaking of puny, you got some tiny rivers then, mate. Seriously, I don't know why this is a brook when a couple weeks ago a tiny rivulet in the woods of Andover, MA was called Skug River. Yah, maybe when it grows up.
