Loss Of A Great Photo Spot

Just saw some photos today released by the USFS of one of my favorite places to go get away that our recent tornadoes hit. This is an awesome mountain stream situated down in a valley filled with towering hemlock trees. Normally it is so well shaded that even in the hot summer months it is comfortable to camp there. My heart is a bit broken today.

A look at the stream today. Normally you can not even see but small pieces of the sky along the stream.

poor trees. but that's how it goes and that's how forests develop and change. The second shot is pretty damn great, btw. I love the framing of the trees/bushes.

We took a ride up there today and the photos USFS put up did not do it justice. Amazing how huge hemlock trees were just tossed around like straws of hay. They have the campground where the stream is closed but you can now see down in the valley from the road on up the mountain where used to there was no view at all. I don't think it will get anywhere near to what it was in my lifetime unfortunately.

That's a shame about the trees and the other destruction. Mind there is still some beautiful spots that you proved in shots 2 and 3.

Those other two shots were about 2 months before the tornado. They have the road down into the area closed till further so I am not sure how far back it reached but we rode up there yesterday and it is now possible to see down in the valley clearly unlike before so that is not a good sign. Really gives respect to what a tornado can though when you see 4 and 5 foot diameter hemlock trees thrown around like 2x4's!
