    Default Lightning

Hey guys, sorry I haven't been around much lately. Its my busy season at work and my daughter has been i'll with Whooping cough, so I haven't had much time for photography.
Last night we had a rare thunder storm, Ive never shot lightning before, but here are a few shots that sort of turned out.

I used a nd filter and between a 15 to 20 second exposure.

Always a blast(no pun intended) watching and capturing lightning with a camera. Each time you get one, its a big smile. Congrats, and good job.

Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!

Simply amazing!!! I have tried over and over to try and capture something like this.

I like #1 the best. The area around the bolt could use a little burning (IMO)

    Untamed electricity. Wonderful.

I remember reading about a hack for the Canon G series. Put it on an sd card and load it in the camera. Then when the conditions are right just turn the camera on and it will capture lighting strikes by itself if pointed in the right direction.

I was going to do that, but decided I liked it blown out. I was going for a bit of a different look, instead of trying to get the perfect exposure that every lightning shot has.
Thanks for the feed back guys!

Firstly, no need to apologize for your absence Jude.
Secondly, these are all amazing captures. Absolutely love that last one for the comp., on top of then subject matter. The rocks, the pier, and the lightning strikes, with that sky, just tie in so well together and make a perfectly balanced photo. VERY well done.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

the last one for me as well - print it, frame it and hang it for others to see!

Great stuff, lovely series. And you did very well with the capturing. For me the second shot is the one that blows all the other ones out of the competition ... superb!

Excellent set, Looks like the ND approach worked well here, I'll have to remember that next time I blessed with a lightning storm...
