Default Globalfest Calgary - image heavy

Every year there is a fireworks competition during the Calgary Globalfest. Greg, my wife and I went to see the contribution of the United States to this competition. Figured it would be the loudest, most colourful display of the festival. Well, of sorts. It was loud, yes ....

Here is a shot of the venue, before the munchkins came and were seated ... (this was around 6:30, fireworks started @ 9:30)

    The opening salvo

exposure was f13, at 200 ISO, bulb setting to allow for time manually ... this one was 2.9 seconds

...and this is what I got with holding the shutter open for 4 seconds

then I remembered my dad, and how he took images of fireworks .... he left the shutter open, and just put a piece of cardboard in front of the lens, until the right fireworks appeared ... so I tried that. Out came the sit-upon from under my butt and it served me as a shield (kinda useless, since one can do an overlay in Photoshop so easily, but hey, what the heck, this was in memory of my dad ...) so here are 9 seconds

    and finally, 13 seconds ...

Thanks for taking a look .....

Super set Matt. That is a great spot with the water for reflection

There is also something more fulfilling doing it in camera as well.

    Nicely done

Fabulous shots Matt. The reflections add an interesting aspect to these. I've heard of the method for lightning shots too.

Very nice, and especially like the long exposures. The reflections are beautiful. Very well chosen location, and wonderful results Matt.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

I like how in 5 & 6 they seem to be reaching out to you - seems to give it an essence 3D. great set.

Hey thanks all. Yeah, i have to say: it pays to do the "black out the lens" thing. Way better than the overlays ....
