I think I may have been too square on for the first shot, making it a bit more boring than the other two where I was closer to the jetty, making them a bit more dramatic and emphasising the receding lines

you're probably right about that assessment. the jetty in the first one seems to stretch on forever. it seems a lot shorter and more interesting in the second two.
